Rocky Maxwell touched many of our lives and motivated many of the past presidents and future leaders of NARPM® to get involved. HUD Fair Housing Report
On Friday, The Department of Housing and Urban Development released the Obama Administration's first annual report on the state of fair housing in America. HUD's Fiscal Year 2009 Annual State of Fair Housing Report highlights the agency's progress in enforcing the Fair Housing Act, identifies challenges that remain, and demonstrates its commitment to acting now to end housing discrimination. The report shows that discrimination based on a person's disability status continues to account for the largest-single category of complaints. Access the full press release from HUD.

E-mail or Snail Mail?
Starting in September, NARPM® will be offering members the choice of receiving their Residential Resource news magazine in either print version or electronically by e-mail. You can make this decision by logging into NARPM® Internet Member Services using your member number found on your membership certificate. Once there, choose Personal Information, and then click on Preferred Media and choose your method for the magazine delivery. Fax is not an option for the Residential Resource. Take a moment and update your information while you are there. If you have problems, just give us a call and we will make the change for you.

Like to Win Free Stuff?
The Member Services Committee is sponsoring a contest for all NARPM® members that refer a new member! We will have a drawing for one free convention registration fee for a new member and one free convention registration fee for their referring member. Deadline is August 10th. You could attend the convention for FREE! You will receive one entry for each new member you refer. You can also accumulate referral points towards the Ambassador program. So, if you get five new members, you will have five entries for a convention registration and receive Ambassador Rewards as well. Also, all referring members are entered into a $25 monthly drawing. You must have at least one referral each month to be eligible for the monthly drawing, so keep those referrals coming!

NARPM® Board of Directors Action in June
- Approved changes to the P&P (Policy and Procedures Manual) in reference to cancellation of registrant for designation classes.
- Endorsed the Nominating Committee slate for the 2011 NARPM® Board of Directors.
- Issued a 30 days notice to amend the bylaws to only allow one NARPM® member from a firm to sit on the NARPM® Board of Directors.
- Adopted changes to new chapter formation: A Chapter-in-Formation can be formed with a minimum of seven members for the first six months, and will be required to build membership to 10 members within the following 12 months. Should the chapter not be able to meet the requirement of 10 members, the chapter will be placed in a conditional membership status for an additional six months. The Regional Vice President and Chapter Support Manager will work with the chapter to assist in getting the chapter in good standing.
- Approved the formation of the Houston Chapter of NARPM®, subject to their completion of the chapter Bylaws and the Articles of Incorporation.
- Approved the CALNARPM amendments to their bylaws, adding the position of past president to their Executive Committee.
- Approved the Tucson Chapter of NARPM® Board of Directors' requests for a name change of the chapter to the Southern Arizona Chapter of NARPM®.
- Approved the recommendation of the Professional Standards Subcommittee in reference to a recent hearing that will result in the suspension of a member.
- Recommended not to allow the opening of the Residential Resource news magazine to outside investors.
- Granted Rental Home Professionals request for $3,500 for the planning retreat for the RHP Board of Directors and Epic River, as long as the national vendor partners, who are working with RHP, participate in the planning session at their own expense. Approved an additional $1,000 to send the executive director to the planning retreat.
- Set a policy that makes it mandatory for incoming Board members to attend the October Leadership Training and Board meeting, and the last two scheduled RVP, regional, and Board of Directors conference calls effective 2010.
- Endorsed the incoming 2011 Board of Directors to attend in 2010 Board of Directors' conference calls in August and December, and also attend the last quarter 2010 regional conference calls. Finance Committee to fund in 2011 up to $500 per person for the new Board of Directors to attend the October Board meeting and the Leadership Training session at the Convention.
- Budget in future years reimbursement of $500 for future incoming RVPs to attend Leadership and Board meeting in October and supply receipts for reimbursement.
Online Education Continues to Grow!
NARPM® 101, Fair Housing, and Lead-Based Paint classes have all been added to the offerings. Remember, you need to take the Ethics class as a requirement of membership by the end of the 2011. Check these classes out.

Also, remember to make sure your name is on the application as “Referred By” to earn those Ambassador Points. A $200 gift certificate will be awarded when you refer five new members to NARPM®.

Only available to members of NARPM® are list serves to help you with your property management questions. There is a list serve for business owners and managers, and one for the general membership. Get all your company questions answered!
Help People Find You!
The NARPM® website gives you the ability to market your business through Find a Property Manager. To grow your market area, enter up to 10 zip codes that represent the general areas that your company manages property. It is not important to list the zip codes where your membership resides. This search on the website is a radius search for all property managers within a certain distance of the searched zip code. If you manage in different cities, it is recommended that you list zip codes for those different geographic regions. This service is only available to members of NARPM®.
Membership Reports
Find out who has joined NARPM® within the last 30 days. Put these reports into Excel and you have your own database to send out announcements. You can also view the latest membership information, including At Large members, and view/submit prospective members. Remember, you must sign into the Members Only section to access these reports.
