Endless PossibilitiesPresident's Message

The National Association of Residential Property Managers proves the adage that "Necessity is the mother of invention."

Twenty years ago, NARPM® was born out of necessity. As a handful of property managers gathered to learn some new computer software, they recognized the need to create a professional and ethical foundation from which they could network with others who spoke their language, generate industry specific education, and certify the individual member’s quest for professionalism. Led by Ralph Tutor they birthed NARPM®. From those humble beginnings NARPM® has grown into a dynamic professional association with members from across the United States and several countries around the world.

Our Mission Statement, to support the professional and ethical practices of rental home management through networking, education and designation, is a guide for creating and implementing programs to enhance professionalism and profitability for our members. NARPM® is the definitive source of information and knowledge in residential property management.

From the very beginning, NARPM® members understood and embraced the concept of colleagues, not competitors, and made it the very foundation of our culture. This unique culture has survived and continues to thrive regardless of the location or condition of our various markets. On the national level, you can network with other management professionals at the East or West Coast Leadership Training sessions, as well as the Annual Convention and Trade Show. On the local level, there are several state and regional events offering the same great networking and educational opportunities.

Adopted in 1994, the NARPM® Code of Ethics and Standards of Professionalism was designed to offer our members a strong framework for becoming the acknowledged leaders in the property management profession. This focus on professionalism still guides us today. When each of us joins NARPM® we agree to hold ourselves accountable to this higher standard.

NARPM® members are eligible to earn the prestigious Residential Management Professional (RMP®) and Master Property Manager (MPM®) designations. Members serving as a Support Specialist in a management office can earn the Certified Support Specialist (CSSsm) designation. These designations require successful completion of NARPM® education courses, recommendations from peers and clients, and experience and service in the field of property management.

Companies that aspire to obtain the highest designation available in our industry can become a Certified Residential Management Company (CRMC®). Achieving this designation requires an onsite and in-depth audit of the company covering legal compliance, interviews with staff, procedures, insurance and client files.

NARPM® is more than just a group of residential property managers, as evidenced by our growing national network of affiliates. These business partners provide valuable services in the areas of technology, industry-specific software, risk management, home improvement, business planning, operations, legal issues and human resources. Use them to help build your successful and profitable management company.

Today we stand on the threshold of our future and the realization of our founders' dreams. Please accept my personal invitation to join me as an active participant as we explore, recognize and fully utilize the “Endless Possibilities” in our future.
