This is a monthly report for the entire NARPM® membership from National's Executive Director. This report will keep you up-to-date on what is happening in and around NARPM®.

Signed Up for the Convention?

You can register online for the National Convention and Trade Show that will be held October 19-21 in Dallas Texas. Find everything you need to know about this event by clicking here. Support the Past Presidents

NARPM® Past Presidents are sponsoring a golf outing at the convention. Whether or not you golf, come out and support this event whose proceeds will go to Vogel Alcove who assists homeless children. This event will be held Tuesday prior to the opening of the convention. Registration and sponsorship information can be found here on the NARPM® convention page.

REO Asset Disposition

The Federal Housing Finance Agency is looking at how to handle the disposition of REO properties. At their request, President Tony Drost and Executive Director Phillips participated in a conference call with this agency to discuss options and the impact on the single family rental market. If you would like information of the number of properties that are in your state please download this excel spreadsheet. They have supplied a great deal of information you may find interesting. Dues Billing Going Electronic

In an effort to 'Go Green' and help do your share to save the environment, NARPM® will begin Electronic Dues billing in October. If you would still like to have your bill mailed to you please go to NARPM.org (you must be logged in to members only) , log into the ecommerce platform and update your personal information. Once there, click on preferred billing method and choose mail.

As part of your membership you can take advantage of the numerous webinars scheduled through the rest of 2011 here. Past presentations are also placed on this site. Ethics Requirement

Remember that by the end of the year all NARPM® members must have taken the NARPM® ethics course in order to retain your membership. These classes can be taken at any of the regional events or online.

NARPM® August Board Meeting

  • Approved granting an extension to meet chapter compliance until the December 2011 Board of Directors meeting to one of the chapters.
  • Ratified the decision of member services committee that if the member is not managing properties then they should not be allowed to retain NARPM® membership or designations so no new classification is needed. Also, Professional Development is to look at an educational requirement for a member to retain their designations.
  • Endorsed a requirement for new Professional Members to take the Ethics class within a set time frame (90 – 180 days) from joining NARPM®. Also approved the recommendation to set a policy that will allow all new members who join NARPM® to get their first ethics course online at no additional cost and course must be taken within 90 days after joining to retain membership. Effective January 1, 2012.
  • Requested that NARPM® Legal Counsel to red line the purchase agreement based that was presented to the board by Epic River and continue to negotiate acceptable terms to all parties.
  • Approved amending the NARPM® Policy and Procedures manual by deleting any current reference to the Long Range Planning Committee and submit the a new policy for the Strategic Planning Committee based on recommendations from a special Ad Hoc committee formed by President Drost.
  • Endorsed changing the NARPM® Mission statement to read: 'NARPM® is the professional, educational, and ethical leader for the residential property management industry.'
  • Endorsed amending the NARPM® Vision statement to read: NARPM® aspires to be integral in the advocacy and recognition of the residential property management profession.
  • Amended the NARPM® Strategic Plan and it can be found at http://www.narpm.org/docs/about/12stratplan.docx.
  • Approved establishing a policy that all NARPM® classes must go through NARPM® National. Direct contracting with the instructor will not be allowed as of January 1, 2012. The committee further recommends that National negotiate directly with REALTOR® Associations and other outside organizations who wish to hold and promote the NARPM® Classes.
  • Endorsed allowing, a NARPM® International Member, for purposes of obtaining a designation, to substitute other requirements for attendance at the National Convention.
  • Accepted the recommendation that effective January 1, 2012, annually 25% of the NARPM® online class profit be given to all chapters for online classes that members who are assigned to their chapter have taken. No promotion of course is necessary for chapters to receive this funding.
  • Approved an additional $2,500 to move forward with creating an online system for electronic submission of designation packets through Internet Member Services, subject to the finance committee approval.
  • Amended the policy and procedures manual in reference to committee chairs approval of expenses should they not respond to requests.
  • Approved President Drost to sign the Organization Management Group five (5) year management contract as presented to the board of directors.
