2010 Year End Edition This is a monthly report for the entire NARPM® membership from National’s Executive Director. This report will keep you up-to-date on what is happening in and around NARPM®. 2010 Highlights Thank you 2010 President Vickie Gaskill who gave us a fantastic year as she taught all members to Dare to Soar. Here are a few highlights of what happened in 2010: - NARPM® had an outstanding 2010 convention in Seattle, WA.
- Worked diligently on improving educational offerings by continuing with course rewrites and adding additional online classes.
- Thanks to RENTALS.com free membership offer, NARPM® membership has grown to over 3,400 members.
- NARPM® became proactive in the legislative arena and worked to help educate members on changes in lead based paint requirements.
- Spoke with Fannie Mae about the Foreclosure issue and turning properties into rentals.
- Four (4) new chapters were added in 2010: Chicagoland, Florida state, Houston, and Minnesota.
- NARPM® conditionally approved adding new chapter to state of Utah.
- The under 40 professionals group was started to give guidance to NARPM® on how to deal with certain issues such as technology and education.
- The junior, student, and academic memberships were added to the NARPM® bylaws.
- NARPM® assisted in the planning of four (4) regional conferences throughout the country.
- NARPM® began offering the Residential Resource electronically to members.
- NARPM® to begin offering a Broker Retreat was approved. The first retreat will take place in 2012.
- Accepted the Hyatt Regency, Crystal City, VA as location for the 2012 convention and the Hyatt La Jolla for the 2013 convention.
- Signed up several new affinity partners to help save members money.
- Held an outstanding Business Development and Leadership Session that kicked off the convention with Joseph A. Michelli, Ph.D.
- A statement of understanding was endorsed between NARPM® and the local chapters
- The Communications Committee has been working with Visual Harbor to rebuild NARPM.org to make the site easier to navigate.
- Amended the bylaws to allow only one board member from a firm to sit on the NARPM® board of directors.
- Several amendments were approved to the Model Chapter Bylaws.
- NARPM® congratulated Atlanta Chapter for being awarded 2010 Chapter of the Year and the other 25 chapters who received Chapter Excellence!
New Legislative Brochure Added to the Website
The Governmental Affairs Committee has created a tri-fold brochure to help raise awareness of NARPM® and what services the Association can provide legislators and other government officials. The brochure is formatted so you can customize it with your local chapter’s name and contact information before printing. We highly encourage you to print and distribute the brochure to members of your state assembly when you visit your capitol. Email questions and comments to govaffairschair@narpm.org. Regional Conference Planning is underway! In the spring of 2011 a NARPM® Regional Conference will be nearby (look at the column on the left of the page and pick out your region). February will kick off the Southwest Regional Conference in Scottsdale, AZ. Sign up early and get your hotel reservations made. Oops! I forgot to pay my dues! Still have time to get those dues payments in. You can pay your dues online by logging on to Internet Member Services with your member number and password. Give Back to the Industry by Volunteering in 2011 NARPM® needs your help by asking that you volunteer to help out in a committee for 2011. We have several subcommittee chair positions that are open. We need you to share your knowledge and expertise so please get involved by filling out the Join a Committee application. Thank you in advance for considering a volunteer position at National. Two Partners in 2011 NARPM® is excited to announce the two Official Partners for 2011. Rentals.com has renewed their commitment to NARPM® and we have added PropertyWare as the second. Please thank these two companies for their continued support of the industry and NARPM®. December Board of Directors Action: - Approved Utah Chapter of NARPM® subject to submission of bylaws and articles of incorporation.
- Approved the Management RFP committee for 2011, Chair: Past President Sylvia Hill MPM®, RMP® Member; Past President Rose Thomas MPM®, RMP®; and Maria Trunkenbolz RMP®.
- Amended the travel policy in reference to reimbursements to President and Convention Chair.
- Approved Arlene Lopes, RMP®, as a NARPM® Honorary Life Member.
- Approved amendments to CALNARPM bylaws.
- Endorsed addition funding to RHPros to cover operational and programming expenses. Additional funding will be held back until 2011 budget and a business plan with actions and goals with specific deadlines are presented to the NARPM® Board of Directors.
- Accepted the 2011 NARPM® budget as presented by the Budget and Finance Committee.
Are people finding you? NARPM.org gives you the ability to market your business through Find a Property Manager. To grow your market area, enter up to 10 zip codes that represent the general areas that your company manages property. This search on the website is a radius search for all property managers within a certain distance of the searched zip code. If you manage in different cities, it is recommended that you list zip codes for those different geographic regions. Only available to members of NARPM®. Do you have questions and don’t know where to get the answers? Only available to members of NARPM® are list serves to help you with your property management questions. There is a listserv also for business owners and managers where they can get company questions answered. For more information on these great services click here. If you are not receiving this magazine electronically NARPM® is offering members the ability to have the documents sent PDF format to your e-mail. The magazine can then be downloaded on your computer. You can make this decision by logging into NARPM® Internet Member Services using your member number found on your membership certificate. Once there choose Personal Information and then click on preferred media and choose method for the magazine delivery. Fax is not an option for the Residential Resource.
