Position Objective  

The Accounting Manager plays an essential role in the design and delivery of the financial services we provide for Roost DC clients.  The Accounting Manager is the architect of systems and standards that are used to streamline productivity and meet the real-time needs of clients (community associations, cooperatives, and homeowners associations) that make up the Roost DC portfolio. This position manages a team of frontline finance specialists and all operations tied to delivering on our contractual obligation, along with best practices for association management financials. Contractual obligations include, but are not limited to: annual budget process, tax and audit oversight, production of monthly financial statements, and long-term financial planning strategy.  Success in this role depends on the effective management of a dynamic, client-facing team that delivers on the Flock promise.

The Accounting Manager views high touch communication, client satisfaction, financial accuracy, and accountability as integrated tools in the path for success as they develop systems to enhance the current and future financial goals and financial health of each community in the Roost portfolio. As such, the following will be core responsibilities:

Leadership + Strategy:

  • Directly manage day-to-day activities of local and remote-based Finance Specialists and assistants
  • Create a collaborative and supportive work environment for the team and adjacent teams/departments + business units
  • Attends to continuing educational, leadership, and skill-building needs of team members
  • Develop quantitative performance standards and targets for the department and solicit both internal and external feedback for continued improvement
  • Participate in Roost DC leads meetings + activities to align operational efforts

System and Client Management:

  • Develop and execute on standard operating procedures & accountability standards for Finance team to deliver on contract obligations
  • Oversee production of client finance packages (monthly) with all back-up and reports with target date of the 21st of the month
  • Manage escalated concerns
  • Banking management
  • Develop, execute and actively manage client delinquency process and serve as point of contact to external contacts to support collection of delinquent homeowner payments.
  • Partner with Client Experience (CE) team to present long-term financial strategy, including special assessments, loan, and investment options.
  • Ensure administrative support and processes are followed including the payment of association bills, assessment collection, and ledger management
  • Oversee and execute budget strategy
  • Oversee and execute tax preparation strategy
  • Oversee and execute on Cooperative tax credits (senior and homestead) with DC OTR
  • Oversee billing in Appfolio and works with Controller to ensure billing in Quickbooks is completed
  • Create and oversee a system for in house cross-training with Roost team members outside the Finance department
  • Attend periodic annual meetings

Cross-Departmental Collaboration and System Alignment:

  • Collaborate with Flock Directors to ensure team is meeting goals.
  • Participate in ongoing management trainings (monthly/minimum)
  • Articulate and operationalize new opportunities for increased profitability
  • Identify and lead department-specific trainings for fellow managers and Directors
  • Seek out opportunities for new partnerships and learning

Resources and Team:

This position will lead the finance team at Roost, including managing several direct reports that are both local and remote.  The Accounting Manager will report to the Director of Client Success and work directly with the Roost DC team and various Directors to deliver high quality services to our clients. The Accounting Manager will liaise with the corporate finance team for the overall financial health and wellness of the Flock Family of companies.

Requirements:

Skills/Experience Required 

  • Experience in the community association management preferred
  • Experience managing or leading a finance team
  • Experience in condo and/or coop association annual budgeting
  • Extremely detail-oriented
  • Experience in Appfolio preferred
  • Superior organization and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and is self-directive
  • Ability to communicate clearly and accurately to a range of audiences, both verbally and in writing
  • Strong ownership over projects and deliverables both individually and as a team lead
  • Willingness to jump into new tasks and help out other team members
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office including Word and Excel

Compensation:

Salary $70-75k range
