#NARPMSmart Education is the Key to Success

For Duke Dodson, MPM® RMP®, education doesn’t end upon graduation. It’s a lifelong pursuit, especially when it comes to growing his business. That’s why, for Dodson, NARPM® Education is major reason Dodson Property Management, CRMC®, has swelled to over 3,500 managed units since its founding in 2007.

Duke joined NARPM® in 2010 and attended his first Southeast Regional Conference the same year. At the Conference, he also took his first NARPM® course on the basics on property management. It was then he realized that NARPM® could provide the support and resources he was missing.

“Before NARPM®, I felt like I was operating blindly,” he said. “And I thought the NARPM® educational programs would be a way to gain clearer focus and direction.”

When he returned home to Richmond, Virginia, he jumped into education classes with both feet, all the while ticking off the other items included on the designation checklists. One after the next, the 37-year-old added NARPM®’s distinguished educational designations to his resume and that of his company.

In 2012, he received his Residential Management Professional (RMP®) designation and in 2013 earned his Master Property Manager (MPM®) designation. Ever striving, in 2014, his company became a Certified Residential Management Company (CRMC®).

Today, Dodson Property Management, CRMC®, has 63 employees with offices in Richmond and nearby Fredericksburg and Williamsburg, Virginia. The designations have helped the company demonstrate their work ethic to potential clients – even if clients don’t understand right away the meaning behind RMP®, MPM®, CRMC®. You can use this opportunity to educate your potential clients.

“Our educational credentials prove to clients we can finish what we start,” said Dodson. “Also, the designations add to our credibility and help us edge out the competition.”

Dodson’s advice to other young professionals in NARPM®? Think about where you want to be in your career and work towards it. “If you have a plan for the next 10, 20 or 30 years, do what you need to do to get there,” he said. “For me, NARPM® education is always at the top of the list. It’s an investment that will pay off. Start the process now. The sooner the better.”
