President’s Message May 2018: Epic Events

April 30, 2018 • Convention • May 2018 Issue | Volume 29 | Number 5

Last month, NARPM® held one of its most successful Broker/Owner conferences. Changes have been in the works over the past two years for a new and improved Broker/Owner Conference. From what I heard, as I navigated the crowd, it really paid off. We offered the NARPM Rehab Your Business session, which had an unprecedented 17 speakers over what seemed to be the fastest three hours of my life.

This year’s Chairman Jennifer Newton and her committee were given a daunting task and they really stepped up to the plate and hit a home run. Next year’s Chairman Philip Scarborough, RMP®, is already hard at work planning the 2019 conference, which I can only imagine will be epic.

Speaking of changes in conferences, there have been some big changes to the NARPM National Convention, as well. This year’s Chairman, Trent Ratliff, MPM® RMP®, and his committee are hard at work planning this year’s event, which will be held at the Loews Coronado Bay Resort in Coronado, California (near San Diego) on October 16-19. Starting with the President’s Celebration on Tuesday evening, October 16, this will be an all-inclusive event (except for the two events mentioned in the next paragraph). You have the option of signing up for the Basic Convention or the Enhanced Convention, which includes videos of all sessions. #NARPM2018

So, the only additional costs are the Education Classes on October 15 and 16 (separate registration required) and the Past Presidents’ Charity Golf Tournament, which is a standalone event on Tuesday, October 16. If you wish to participate, you will need to sign up and pay for it separately. This year, Past President Vickie Gaskill, MPM® RMP®, has chosen Casting for Recovery as the Past Presidents’ Charity Fundraiser. The mission of Casting for Recovery (CfR) is to enhance the quality of life for women with breast cancer through a unique retreat program that combines breast cancer education and peer support with the therapeutic sport of fly fishing. The program offers opportunities for women to find inspiration, discover renewed energy for life, and experience healing connections with other women and nature. CfR serves breast cancer survivors of all ages, in all stages of treatment and recovery, at no cost to participants.

We have made changes to the schedule and the overall flow of the event, so this convention will have a different look and feel. One big difference is that we will take over the entire hotel. NARPM® will be the only convention held in the hotel that week and NARPM Members will have almost 100% of the hotel rooms. We are in the process of adding more rooms to the group block. That means that pretty much everywhere you go, you will be surrounded by NARPM® family and friends.

With the schedule changes, there will now be three full days of convention. It will kick off Wednesday morning with an outstanding opening speaker, Michael Veltri. He is a battle-hardened entrepreneur, bestselling author, and business transformation keynote speaker on a mission to teach successful professionals better decision-making skills to achieve peak performance with balance — not burnout.

We will have more breakout sessions than ever before, great panel discussions, and the first ever “NARPM® TALKS” session, which is a TED Talk-inspired session with multiple experts addressing an important topic for NARPM® Members.

Thursday will bring Mark Sanborn who is an international bestselling author and noted expert on leadership, team building, customer service, and change. This year’s vendor expo will be the largest one we have ever held and it is already sold out. More square feet means more vendors and more vendors mean more opportunity for you to find the right fit to make changes to improve your business. You will need to plan time to meet all the great vendors who will be attending. We will be celebrating all of those who earn their designations this year in a unique and special way. If you are a current candidate, now is the time to get everything done and your package submitted, so we can celebrate with you at the NARPM®  National Convention. The deadline for submission is August 3. We will hold our annual business meeting, swear in the 2019 National Board of Directors, and hear President-Elect Eric Wetherington’s, MPM® RMP®, vision for NARPM® during his upcoming year.

This year’s convention will close with a bang, not a whisper. You do not want to miss our closing speaker Greg Schwem, whose comedic take on the 21st century workplace and work/life balance has landed him on SiriusXM Radio, FOX News, Comedy Central, and the pages of Parents® magazine. More than just a business humorist, Greg is also an author, nationally-syndicated humor columnist, award-winning greeting card writer, and creator of FunnyDadInc., which can be found at funnydadinc.com. What better way to end a great convention than with laughter.
