Are you #NARPMSmart?

Paul Kankowski, RMP®, of House Match in Temecula, California, learned the importance of a solid education in his early career as a school principal. “I was a big proponent of my teachers taking courses each year to increase their ability to teach,” Paul explains. “I believe as property managers, it is very important for us to stay on top of our game in order to serve our customers better.”

The first #NARPMSmart class Paul took was when he was an investor considering making the transition to managing properties. According to Paul, this one course changed everything. “This class opened my eyes to how poorly I was managing my own properties,” he said. “The amount I learned in this class was mind blowing for someone thinking about doing this full time. I had been an investor for twenty years and I thought I knew everything. Every year, through NARPM®, I learn more things that make me better at what I do.”

Since that time, Paul has been a loyal member that has earned his RMP® Designation and is a regular in attendance at National NARPM® events and his state CALNARPM Conference. “These events are filled with new ideas and ways to make our business more efficient and us better managers. These conferences are amazing in the amount of knowledge I gain, meeting vendors that make my job easier, and building friendships with people I can call when I need help.”

To Paul, being #NARPMSmart means knowing that there is always more to learn. Because of ideas he learned in NARPM® Courses, Paul has been able to work smarter, not harder. He has streamlined his business to take focus off of properties with bad owners that were not adequately maintained and that were draining his time and resources. Instead, he focuses on properties that are a good property/owner fit. The realignment of attention has led to increased growth in his company.

“Don’t wait to get your designation,” Paul tells anyone considering taking classes. “It will help you in growing your business. Every time I take a class, a workshop, or attend a conference, I learn multiple items that make my job more efficient, compliant, and that make me a better property manager.”
