Last week, the House Financial Services Committee held a hearing entitled “Building Capacity: Reducing Government Roadblocks to Housing Supply.” Lawmakers reviewed numerous bills aimed at streamlining regulations, boosting housing supply, and improving affordability nationwide. The hearing included discussion of the bipartisan Respect State Housing Laws Act, a NARPM priority sponsored by Representative Barry Loudermilk (GA) and cosponsored by fifty additional House members, including the lead Democrat on the legislation, Representative Vicente Gonzalez (TX). This bill would repeal the CARES Act 30-day Notice to Vacate. This hearing is an important first step in moving this legislation forward.
During the hearing, NARPM got a shoutout from Congressman Loudermilk:
Here is the comment letter that NARPM submitted for the hearing.
Going forward, the NARPM advocacy team is going to continue pushing for the Respect State Housing Laws Act to be included in the upcoming House Financial Service Committee markup so that it can be included as part of House housing package and be part of a potential bicameral housing package.
