HUD Guidance on Fair Housing Protections for People with Limited English Proficiency
The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) recently issued guidance on working with persons who have Limited English Proficiency (LEP). The key takeaway from HUD’s issuance is the following quote:
Housing providers are therefore prohibited from using limited English proficiency selectively or as an excuse for intentional housing discrimination. The law also prohibits landlords from using limited English proficiency in a way that causes an unjustified discriminatory effect.
